Furthering our partnership with the Hellenic Paralympic Committee

Sports excellence was delighted to welcome two experienced Paralympians in Kelly Loufaki and Makis Kalaras to further the developing collaboration with the Hellenic Paralympic Committee. Our guests have competed in many international and European competitions and represented Greece at the Paralympic Games in fencing, track & field and alpine skiing, respectively.

During the visit, assessment protocols and technical training details for a variety of sports were discussed to achieve optimal use of the facility by athletes with disabilities. With recommendations from the Paralympians we can create individualised protocols to importantly meet the needs of the athlete but also the sport-specific demands of their event, reflecting a core philosophy of our centre. Furthermore, we are proud to devote continuing focus to the planning and organisation phase in the development of pioneering protocols.

The ‘Sports Excellence’ initiative is an innovative program for the development and support of athletes, implemented in collaboration with the non-profit organisation ‘Regeneration and Progress’. The 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens delivers scientific supervision and funding is provided by an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
