Sports excellence welcomes 4 talented youth athletes for physiological assessment in cooperation with the Hellenic Table Tennis Federation

Sports excellence, in its cooperation with the Hellenic Table Tennis Federation, was pleased to welcome 4 talented youth athletes on the 30.05 for evaluation in the Sports Excellence Unit at the University Hospital ‘Attikon’. Amongst them was a level 1 athlete and member of the woman’s national team who has represented Greece at the European Championships.

Selected athletes aged from 12-18 were assessed by Sports Excellence scientific staff in somatometric features, respiratory function (spirometry), power (functional), flexibility, upper and lower limb strength, torso power and reaction times in a sport-specific protocol using FitLight Trainer technology. The scientific data and results provide coaches with useful information to optimally design training aimed at improving athlete performance.

The ‘Sports Excellence’ initiative is an innovative program for the development and support of athletes, particularly in creating a scientific environment for the holistic development of young athletes and is implemented in collaboration with the non-profit organisation ‘Regeneration and Progress’. The 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens delivers scientific supervision and funding is provided by an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
